Short answer: for a bedside, bathroom or doormat spot, choose about 40 × 60 cm to 60 × 60 cm. In front of a gaming desk, choose 80–100 cm so both the chair and your feet sit on the rug. To anchor a bedroom or seating area, go 120 cm or larger. For hallways and kitchens, use a runner around 40–50 cm wide.

Rug size by space

Space	Recommended size	In inches
Bedside, bathroom, doormat	40 × 60 cm to 60 × 60 cm	16 × 24 in to 24 × 24 in
In front of a desk or gaming setup	80 × 80 cm to 100 × 120 cm	31 × 31 in to 39 × 47 in
Bedroom or seating-area centrepiece	120 × 120 cm to 120 × 160 cm	47 × 47 in to 47 × 63 in
Hallway, kitchen galley, end of bed	Runner, 40 × 120 cm to 50 × 180 cm	16 × 47 in to 20 × 71 in

How to measure in two minutes

1. Mark the area you want covered with painter's tape or a few books on the floor.
2. Measure length and width in centimetres or inches.
3. Leave a border. In most rooms, 20–40 cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls looks balanced.
4. Check door swing for entryway rugs so the door clears the pile.

Gaming setups: what actually works

The most common mistake is going too small. A rug that only fits under your feet looks lost next to a desk. Aim for a rug that reaches at least the front legs of your chair, and pick a bold graphic that still reads on camera if you stream. Round and cut-to-shape rugs like the Pixel Heart Rug or 8 Ball Rug work well because they frame the setup without fighting the desk's straight lines.

Round, rectangle, runner or cut-to-shape?

• Round softens a room full of straight edges – good under a desk chair or a coffee table.
• Rectangle is the safe choice for beds and sofas.
• Runner fits long, narrow spaces like hallways and kitchens – see the Raw Smoke Runner Rug.
• Cut-to-shape rugs follow the outline of the design, so they read as floor art rather than a mat.
